After the success of my autumn beginners pattern cutting course at Creative Space on North Street in Bristol, I’m starting some exciting new classes in January. I’ll be repeating the beginners course on Tuesday evenings from 7 – 9.30 pm over five weeks which takes us up to February half-term. We’ll cover the basics of pattern drafting and dart manipulation to create skirt, top and dress patterns and you’ll come away with a dress block to fit your measurements from which you can make various different dress shapes. The course begins on Tuesday 15th January and ends on Tuesday 12th February.
On Monday afternoons I’m starting ‘dressmaking Mondays’, three hours a week to work on a project of your choice. Bring your sewing machine and a project you’d like to work on. I can help you follow or adapt a pattern, make a pattern from an existing garment or just help you with starting to sew. This class is suitable for all levels. £20 per session or £85 for a block of five weeks. Classes start on Monday 14th January.
My first ‘make your own garment in a day’ workshop starts with the kimono on Saturday 26th January. It’s already had such a great response that I’m running it again on Saturday 2nd March. Making a kimono is pretty simple so it’s a really good place to start if you’re new to sewing but it’s also a really pleasing garment for those who just love working with fabric. You’ll need to bring your own fabric and a sewing machine. The class runs from 10am to 4pm with an hour for lunch and costs £50.
I’ll be introducing more classes throughout the year so watch this space and do let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like to learn. Happy new year!
